For high school teams across the state, the last week of regular season football is upon us before selection Sunday on October 22nd, and teams are all jockeying for playoff seeding or spots in the final field of 288 teams. Across Mid-Michigan, several teams ranked in the MaxPreps Michigan top 25 were in action, including 2nd ranked Davison, 9th ranked Corunna, and 14th ranked Mason.
Mason is a new addition to the top 25, having shot up 15 spots after a dominant 30-7 victory over then undefeated Walled Lake Western. In that game, the Mason defense didn’t allow a point after the first quarter, while AJ Martel, who set the school career rushing record just a week prior, contributed offensively with two touchdowns.
Beyond that, Corunna also saw a rise in the top 25, moving from the 17th slot just a week ago. This comes on the heels of a 57-7 win over Fenton. Davison found themselves falling out of the top slot, but they still moved to 8-0 with a 35-21 win over Grand Blanc.
In the final week of the regular season, Davison welcomes 5-3 Lapeer, Corunna has a home game against 5-3 Armada, and Mason heads out for a road game against 6-2 Fenton.
